Town returned to winning ways with back-to-back 3-0 wins against tough opponents in Willand Rovers and Buckland Athletic.
Town are still in the top three of the Toolstation Premier Division – despite having played only one home game this season – and took on two of the division’s heavy hitters in Willand (fifth) and Buckland (fourth) over the past couple of weeks.
The side has been plagued by an unprecedented level of injuries in recent games, due in part to constant travelling to play away twice a week while the new stadium is built.
However, Darren Perrin’s side have put in impressive performances and kept two clean sheets, while putting away six goals of their own.
Town welcomed Buckland Athletic to the Conigre on for their first home game in two months, and got off to a good start with an early goal from Gary Higdon. Melksham’s top scorer Luke Ballinger was once again on top form, slamming the ball home in the 71st minute after great work by Mike Perrott.
Jake Hiscocks wrapped up the points, finishing off Luke Ballinger’s back heel.
The previous week’s game saw Melksham travel to Willand Rovers who were on a high from their 4-0 win against Longwell Green Sports. But once again, Town took all three points and kept a clean sheet. Leigh Rogers put Town ahead in the closing stages of the first half , while George Pawley and Leigh Rogers again sealed the points with goals in the 73rd and 78th minutes.
Town manager Darren Perrin said, “We’ve had a very good run of results against top teams, the boys have been magnificent. We were disappointed with the result at Shepton Mallet but they bounced back and responded how the should.
“We’ve still got five lads missing and they’re probably 2-3 weeks away from being ready and with the volume of games, it’s difficult. I think if we can continue to get good results against the top teams, then we should finish in the top four. I don’t like to get carried away but I’d be disappointed if can’t do that.”
