THE community is being invited to get involved with the development of King George V playing field by joining a new friends’ group.
Members of the ‘Friends of King George V’ group will work alongside the town council to help continue and support the ongoing work to enhance the area for the community.
Chair of the King George V sub committee, Adrienne Westbrook, who suggested the idea, said, “Melksham Town Council has made a huge difference to the quality of life of Melksham residents by investing in King George V park.
“When the town council decided that they needed to improve the park, nobody could have forseen how parks and green spaces would play such a prominent part in our lives over 2020/2021.
“Melksham Town Council are now looking at how more residents can get involved in the development of the area.”
The town council’s community development officer, Miriam Zaccarelli, is to work with Adrienne and interested residents, who wish to work with the council on a shared vision of enhancements. The new group would also look at the possibility of applying for a Green Flag Award, which is the benchmark national standard for publicly accessible parks and green spaces in the United Kingdom.
If you are interested in getting involved please contact the Town Hall on: townhall@melksham-tc.gov.uk, or contact Adrienne on 07595 520021.
