WILTSHIRE Council is encouraging residents to book their taxi home in advance of going out in the evening, to avoid groups of people congregating in taxi areas or queuing at taxi ranks.
Wiltshire Council say, “As a result of the 10pm curfew for hospitality venues, more people are leaving venues at the same time creating more demand for taxis and larger groups at taxi areas, which could lead to a higher risk of transmission of Covid-19.
“By booking in advance and avoiding the queue, residents can protect themselves and others – reducing the time they are in closer proximity to others and helping everyone to continue their normal activities in the safest way possible. It also saves residents’ time and helps taxi companies to better plan for this period of higher demand.”
Cllr Philip Whitehead, leader of Wiltshire Council, said, “Booking in advance is a positive thing we can all do to reduce the risk of transmission of Covid-19 and save some time after a meal or night out.
“As well as offering some peace of mind knowing that people won’t have to stand in a crowd at the taxi rank at 10pm, it also helps taxi companies to plan the night ahead and ensure all hygiene measures are followed.
“With Covid-19 cases across Wiltshire increasing, everyone needs to play their part to ensure Wiltshire doesn’t go into a local lockdown and these small steps can really make a big difference.”
