THE Bowerhill Barkers’ ‘Christmas Bone-anza’ raised £2,300 for Guide Dogs Southampton last weekend.
The total amount raised by the event is expected to rise as the group’s online auction, which has items such as jewellery and hand-crafted gifts up for grabs, continues until next Saturday, 1st December.
The money raised takes the group another step closer to achieving their fundraising target of £55,000 – the lifetime cost of a Guide Dog – to enable them to name and sponsor a guide dog. Since June, the group has now raised nearly £7,000.
Group member, Caroline Fielding said, “Attending the event we had;a variety of singers and bands, who all gave their time free of charge; Santa Claus with three of his elves; lots of Guide Dogs, including puppies, working dogs, retired dogs and withdrawn dogs; Primate Clothing, who also sponsored the printing of all our leaflets and posters; Pet Paw Paving; face-painting with glitter tattoos and local craft stalls.
“The day started at 10am with the arrival of a crowd of cyclists from Trowbridge Cycling Club, eager locals and a variety of dogs and puppies, to the sound of our live music. This set the tone for the day; a thriving, bustling day of fun, laughter, singing, dancing and activity. It was a truly sparkling, spectacular day.”
