The search is on to find a replacement for the Cub Scout Leaders with the Bowerhill Scout Group who are leaving at the end of term due to work and family commitments.
People are being asked to come forward to be part of this very successful group which meets in Bowerhill Village Hall on a Thursday currently 6-7.30pm.
The Duchess of Cambridge is a volunteer with Beaver Scouts and Cub Scout packs close to where she is living. The Duchess has been so impressed by the impact that we have on young people and on our communities. Like many people The Duchess is incredibly busy. What has made it easy for her to volunteer is that the Scout Movement offer a model of volunteering that can fit around other duties and obligations.
As an organisation it was realised some years ago that scouting had to be accessible to all potential volunteers; not just those who could commit to regular weekly meetings and much work has been done to encourage ‘flexible volunteering’. Hopefully this encourages new people to get involved, and that ‘the way we have always done it’ doesn’t become a barrier to growth.
The Bowerhill Scout Group has helped to shape the future of some of the young people that have been part of the group. However this is not the only way to volunteer with the introduction of ‘flexible volunteering’.
Please do your bit to ensure that the Bowerhill Scout Group will continue to provide excellent Scouting. If we can start to build flexible relationships with new volunteers, who knows where your scouting journey might take you.
