YOUNG paddleboarders can compete for cash prizes in fun races on the River Avon at this year’s Melksham Food and River Festival.
“Whilst wandering along the River Avon in King George V park you can’t have failed to notice how popular paddleboarding has recently become,” said Chair of the festival, Adrienne Westbrook.
“During lazy afternoons and evenings many people can be seen paddling their way from the Adventure Centre in the park towards Lacock.
“If you are keen on this easily available sport why don’t you think about joining in a race.
“The Melksham Food and River Festival is putting on one or more paddleboard races on Sunday 5th September at 12pm. It’s open to all from ages 11 to 15. The course distance is 200 metres.
“Entry is free although you must have your own paddleboard. There will be a cash prize (£30 and £20) for first and second place, as well as medals.
“All paddleboarders are welcome to join us over the weekend of the festival and use our wonderful River Avon. Great food and entertainment all weekend!
“And if you’re over 15, why don’t you think about getting a team together for the really popular Saturday raft race?
