The first stage of the new town CCTV system is due to be installed in a week’s time and the CCTV group are appealing for help from a local business or organisation to enable a last-minute change.
Funding from the Melksham Area Board and Melksham Town Council has covered the first stage but the link required to a better camera position has resulted in a shortfall of £750 for the high-spec computer required to provide full control of the cameras.
The planning for the system has been carried out by volunteers in the interests of the community, and the group has only just heard that an application to a local charitable organisation for the shortfall has been turned down because they feel the system should be fully funded by the council.
The group agrees with their sentiments but it’s been made clear by the original funders that no further funding is available until the original money has been spent and the system is up and running. The group is already planning expansion of the system and would welcome the involvement of a few more local people with CCTV experience or expertise.
