VOLUNTEERS are needed to help support this year’s Poppy Appeal.
Poppy Appeal organiser, Trevor Paterson says, “The Royal British Legion will be launching this year’s Poppy Appeal from Saturday 30th October for two weeks until Saturday 13th November. Poppies will be available in all the local shops, pubs, and clubs during this period.
“We are planning to have tables in the main supermarkets here in Melksham, for the sale of poppies, lapel badges, regimental crosses, plain remembrance crosses and other Poppy Appeal items.
“As in previous years, we will be looking for volunteers to man our tables, alongside Branch members – you can volunteer for as many hours or days as you can manage and choose which store you would like to attend.
“This year we will be using contactless terminals as well as cash donations, because of the ongoing decline in the use of cash after the Covid restrictions, plus it makes it safer to make a donation.”
Trevor says, “This year’s parade will be on Sunday 14th November, starting in King Street car park to arrive at the Cenotaph in time for the two minute silence at 11am, before entering the church for the service.
“Could all the organisations who wish to lay wreaths at the Cenotaph after the service, please contact me if your organisation requires a wreath.”
