Marie Bucknell-Smith of the Melksham Cancer Research group has had her first book published.
The storyline takes place around Bowerhill and the group’s first fundraising year in Melksham. Local businesses and the people that supported the group in its first year are mentioned in the book, along with local land marks.
During the highlight of the group’s fundraising, Marie’s Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer and Marie became her Mother’s carer, while continuing to raise funds to help others. The book demonstrates the importance of showing kindness and understanding, and the generosity that came from the Melksham community.
The book has been written to help other people in all walks of life. A donation from the book will go to Cancer Research UK.
Marie said, “The book is dedicated to my mum, and although some parts of it were emotionally hard for me to write, I knew I had to complete it to help other people. All the businesses mentioned in the book were approached and no one minded being a part of it.
“One part of the book is called MELKSHAM community and it really is a book that displays the generosity of our local community. The Melksham lights and Christmas fair are also mentioned.
“The book is distributed worldwide and will not only highlight our town, but will help us to raise further funding into research for Cancer Research UK through our Melksham group.
