CANCER Research UK Melksham group has had a successful month after raising over £3,500 in July.
The figure was reached through a variety of fundraising, including competitions such as the silent tyre auction bid, courtesy of Cooper Tires, which raised plenty of money. This was won by Jennifer Greer who placed the highest bid of £610.
The group also held a silent auction for tickets to see Peter Andre and also to meet and greet the celebrity singer.
This competition was won by members of the Cancer Research Melksham group who managed to raise £400 to win the bid.
Marie Bucknell-Smith from the Cancer Research UK Melksham group said, “We are grateful for all of the Melksham businesses that generously supported us, too many to mention here, but I will be writing personally to thank them as their kindness and generosity deserves to be acknowledged. The money raised could provide a -80% freezer, essential for the long-term storage of biological samples that provide the vital raw material for research.
“A major trial funded by Cancer Research UK shows that adding chemo to radiotherapy can halve the risk of bladder cancer coming back after treatment. The results change the way that people with bladder cancer are treated, particularly for older people with the disease.”
