ANOTHER successful careers fair was held at Melksham Oak Community School on Friday 4th October.
The fair saw universities from far and wide, from Bournemouth, South Wales, Winchester and Oxford, as well as local businesses within Wiltshire and the surrounding area, such as Asda, Dyson, Wiltshire Police and Southern Electric. In addition, amongst some of the other exhibitors were local colleges, the armed forces and various apprenticeship based companies, from Kier and Campbell Page. Students from year 7 and 13 were able to rotate around the fair, seeking further advice on courses at college/university and how to get into certain types of careers.
Many of the exhibitors had ‘Have a Go’ skills, ranging from Dyson – working through the engineering and construction of vacuum cleaners; DC Leisure with fitness activities to Wiltshire college subject tutors leading flower arranging, controlling a robotic arm and the arrival of their new robot.
Feedback from both students and exhibitors has been positive: “Good to engage young people and help them make choices”. “Really organised event where the students were well informed on what we did or offered”. “The students were lovely and we had a great range of questions”
