THE Melksham Carnival Royalty were crowned at the weekend at a special tea party at the town hall.
The carnival queen is Amy Fletcher with Charlotte Coleman as the princess; Isabelle Coleman as the butterfly princess; Tilly Newman as the fairy princess, and Austin Newman as the prince.
Local residents turned out for the event held on Sunday 7th April, to watch the selection process.
Beth Dark from the carnival team said, “The Melksham Carnival Royalty selection is always such a magical event and one which we look forward to, with great excitement. Local people, with bags of community spirit and a genuine passion about our wonderful little town, come together, to see who will wear the crowns.
“I never envy our judges, (Sue Mortimer, Indi Little and Korah Casey) in their difficult task of choosing the winners, but they did a brilliant job, in their selections. A heartfelt thanks goes to them.
“The newly crowned royalty are very excited about their year of reign, and the next steps for will be appointments for dress fittings and organising their diary with big events.
“We would like to say a big thank you to Belle of the Ball Bridals, for the stunning crowns and C&A Embroidery for the spectacular sashes, and for being our sash sponsors, as well as Jack’s Kitchens, Cobblers Bench and The Toy Moon.
“A big thanks to the town hall staff for their help, as always, and to Co-op for their very kind donation towards refreshments. A thank you too, to our VIPs, for their support, Pamela Jackson (previous glamorous grandmother, Cheri Allen (carnival supporter), Pat Aves (local councillor) and Abbie Dark (previous carnival princess).
“And lastly to the people of our town, ever supportive and helpful in our aim, to keep Melksham Carnival alive as long as possible.”
This year sees the return of the carnival to the town after an absence last year because the carnival team could not raise £3,000 to cover basic costs.
But after months of fundraising, the event is set to make a big comeback after the team reached their fundraising target.
The carnival will take place on Saturday 13th July, and with the royalty crowning completed, the carnival committee is now focused on making the procession one to remember.
