LOCAL group, Community Action: Whitley & Shaw (CAWS), has welcomed a new member to the committee to oversee the ongoing campaign to slow down speeding drivers in the villages.
Taking over from Richard Bean, who has been the Speedwatch team coordinator for 10 years, is new coordinator Kirsty Jamieson.
Chair of CAWS, Pippa Richardson reports, “Yesterday it was my very great privilege to facilitate a meeting between our long standing Speedwatch team coordinator, Richard Bean, and our new incoming coordinator, Kirsty Jamieson.
“Richard, supported by his wife Elizabethe, has performed the role for 10 years. They have played a valuable role in capturing and reporting speeding behaviour around the villages, as well as helping with the liaison with our local constabulary.
“I’d like to thank Richard for his years of dedication and support. We look forward to both he and Elizabethe remaining on the team and undertaking activity as and when time permits.
“I’d also like to welcome Kirsty to the CAWS committee and wish her well in the role as she undertakes her training and seeks to recruit more willing volunteers with our support.
“The villages are increasingly used as a rat run and the driving behaviour is, on occasion, appalling, so if you are interested in joining the team to help focus people on better speed awareness and act as a deterrent, please get in touch.”
