A DOG trainer from Melksham will be competing at the world’s largest dog show this month.
Chelsea Coles and her working sheepdog Kelsey will be competing in the Young Kennel Club Senior Jumping final at Crufts on Sunday 12th March. This is not the first time Chelsea has competed, but this time she has her sights set on 1st place.
Chelsea said, “I’ve been doing dog agility for about 13 years. My mum runs a dog agility class in Melksham called Westlands Agility, so that’s how I got into it. I now run my own classes which I really enjoy. Anyone can come along, it’s great fun. It’s really sociable, suitable for any dog breed as long they are fit and healthy.
“I’ll be competing against 20 other people and there will be 16-20 obstacles which include jumps, tunnels, weaves and walls. The fastest course time wins but you also need a clear run, so you need to be quick and accurate.
“I do get quite nervous because there are a lot of people watching and also Kelsey has never competed before, so I’m not sure how she will react. It can be quite a daunting experience for them first time, but I’m sure she will be fine.”
