The paddling pool in King George V Playing Fields is finally set to be re-opened, after being closed by the Wiltshire Council over a year ago.
The issue was reported to the town council which pressed for action after it found out there were no plans by Wiltshire Council to undertake the necessary work to reopen the facility.
“It’s not acceptable that Melksham residents should be forced to put up with fenced off facilities because departments within Wiltshire Council cannot decide who should pay to repair a publicly-funded facility,” said cllr Jon Hubbard. “It appeared that the work was not being done because no-one could agree which department should pay for it.
“It’s not department A or department B’s money – it’s the council tax payers’ money and should be being used to get these things sorted.
“I’m delighted we have been able to sort this issue now and that children from across the Melksham Community Area will be able to enjoy this facility again this summer.”
