FRIENDS of Melksham Hospital & Community are to host a Camel Racing Night at the Assembly Hall next month.
The event is to take place on Thursday 11th December from 7pm, with more details to be revealed closer to the date.
Secretary Alan Weymouth is encouraging everyone to come along. He said, “Helping the Friends to raise some welcome funding as well as raising awareness of their continuing work this year Sainsbury’s Melksham branch have adopted the Hospital Friends as their local charity partner. As part of this joint effort, they have suggested and are helping to organise a Christmas Camel Racing Night to be held at the town’s Assembly Hall.
“We all know that Melksham is a special place at Christmas so we are hoping that many people will want to come along for a seasonal evening of fun and entertainment. It would be really nice to see any of our past or current members and supporters, especially former or current hospital staff, GPs and care-workers, and perhaps some of the groups and individuals who have so generously raised funds for us in the past, perhaps at the much-loved Hospital Fete and Baby Show for example. This money, incidentally, we are still spending today, very much in the same spirit as we have in the past.
“I guess it would also be special if representatives of some of the numerous groups we have been able to support through donations to a whole host of projects were to come along and join us. It promises to be a fun night.’
“I think I know Melksham and its surrounding villages well enough by now to be confident that many people in our community will want to come along for a social evening that will help add to this special season of the year. There is the positive bonus of helping us to continue being able to support worthwhile local health-related projects well into the future. As always, every penny raised on the night will be used thoughtfully to help maintain and improve local healthcare.”
