Churchfields, the Village School – end of year report

Another fun-filled and action-packed year is coming to an end at Churchfields.

Simon Futcher, headteacher reports, “Our curriculum topics are launched by ‘WOW’ days. We’ve had visitors including an African musician and a rather friendly dinosaur, Milly the T-rex! We really try to make our topic launches fun and memorable for the children.

“I love that we go to exciting places such as Legoland, Longleat and Barry Island.”

 “This year, for our whole school trip, we went to Barry Island for our topic based on water. 

“We have an amazing PTA, the recent Christmas fairs were a huge success…they even drew in a visit from Santa! 

“Clubs are run by both staff and outside sources, they offer a range of different activities across all year groups. Some of the children from dance club took part in the dance festival at The Forum in Bath, the theme was ‘Legends.’ Part of the school football team took part in the small schools’ competition at Kingswood…We came 3rd!

“The children get so much out of Forest School sessions. Not just being outdoors, but learning skills such as shelter building and fire safety. As well as making the all-important smores! Mmmm yummy! 

“Having smores, building things and learning outside skills, I just love Forest school sessions!”    

“Every year, the children delight with wonderful costumes of their characters from their favourite books. The children come back to school in the evening to have bedtime stories read by the staff.

“To raise money for a charity close to our hearts, The British Heart Foundation, we held a whole school skipathon on the last day of our first term back. 

“Every year we strive for the very best for our school and the children we teach each and every day. It is so lovely then to receive recognition for all the hard work we do and one such outcome recently was that we achieved 100% in our phonics test in Key Stage One and received a letter from Nick Gibb, Minister for School Standards, to say a huge WELL DONE!”
