THE next Churchyard Challenge Day will be on Saturday 13th February from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at St Michaels’ Churchyard.
Over the past few years, teams of enthusiastic volunteers have descended on St Michaels’ Church and removed ivy, tidied graves, planted bulbs and earlier this year an old path was reinstated.
Terri Welch, chair of Melksham Town Team said, “The path goes from the church towards Melksham House and once it’s finished it will act as a peaceful way to enter the forthcoming Health and Leisure Campus.
“Melksham has a wonderful church, set in the centre of the town, in beautiful surroundings. But we need to look after both the building and the grounds. So come along on Saturday and help tidy the grounds, or become a Friend and help keep Melksham’s oldest building in good repair for future generations to use.
“The church is available for community use, and during summer months is open to the public daily. The Friends of St Michaels is a non denominational group, founded around 20 years ago to support, enhance and preserve the character and amenities of our oldest building.
“All are welcome to play their part. If you are interested in the history of our town, are a dog walker using the churchyards, somebody who appreciates a peaceful place, why not join and help maintain this treasure. The annual subscription is very small, £10 per family or £7 an individual. To join, come along to the next meeting in the Church room, Canon Square on Wed 30th March at 6.30pm.”
