Children in Forest & Sandridge Primary School’s year 4 have been completing the ‘Skills Force Prince William Award’ since the beginning of the academic year.
The school reports, “During the course of the year they have been developing and embedding lifelong skills such as teamwork, resilience, self-confidence and perseverance, through theory and practical activities. The aim of the project is to support children into realising their true potential and helping them become responsible citizens.
“As part of their final graduation, the children had to plan a charity event that would have an impact on the wider community. The children planned and organised the whole event with the support of their Skills Force leader – Kelly. The children decided to raise money through a sponsored charity event for Bristol Children’s Hospital. The charity was chosen due to the support the hospital has given to a number of children within our school.
“Melksham Town Football club very kindly allowed the children to hold their football match at the ground, with staff from Forest and Sandridge playing against the children. Both groups of children defeated the teachers 2-1. There was also a half time dance organised by the children. The children and parents raised over £1,000 for the charity and the morning was enjoyed by all. The children organised everything from the invitations to the thank you letters. After the event, the children in Year 4 all graduated with their Prince William Award.”
