LOCAL groups were awarded funding from Melksham Area Board to help fund on-going projects and refurbishments to community areas.
St John Ambulance was awarded £750 to support the upgrade of their communications network to a cutting edge digital network. They look to purchase 18 handheld digital radios, six of which will be used from their Melksham unit.
Brunswick Park Residents Group were awarded £500 to re-instate the games lines on the MUGA (multi-use games area) in Hazelwood Road park, which have been worn and in some cases disappeared over the years.
Keevil Village Hall was awarded £3,500 to replace the existing floor that has been deemed unsuitable by two companies. The options were to sand and seal the existing floor, which was laid in 1963, or to replace it. It was agreed that the current mosaic tiles cannot be sanded and sealed, so a new floor is needed.
Melksham Remembers Project was awarded £2,000 to fund an exhibition on 9th-11th November as a culmination of the work undertaken by community volunteers investigating what life was like in the community area during the First World War, in celebration of the centenary of the end of the war. They have asked for funding to buy reusable exhibition stands to use, and then become a community resource available from the Town Hall.
