This April, compulsory microchipping is being introduced for all dogs across the UK.
This means that every dog over the age of eight weeks has to have a microchip, their information has to be on a suitable database and this information has to be up to date.
“Microchipping is not only important to comply with legislation, but is a vital part of security and reassurance – if a pet is lost or stolen the microchip provides a valuable way of identifying them,” said Jill Warner from Beeches Veterinary Centre in Semington Road. They are offering a £10 microchipping service this month for all dogs and cats.
“We are using high quality ‘BackHome’ mini-microchips which mean a smaller needle for your puppy or dog,” added Jill.
“The owner’s details are stored on the Kennel Club – run database ‘Petlog’ – this keeps owners’ data secure but, should anything happen and a pet is lost or stolen, the database is contactable 24 hours a day.
“We have useful information for anybody with questions and welcome people to just pop in and see us at 4 Semington Road, Melksham (SN12 6BZ).”
