Plans for a Costa Coffee shop with a drive-through facility within Leekes’ car park have been approved by Wiltshire Council.
The initial planning application, which was submitted in August last year, raised concerns from councillors at Melksham Town Council about traffic flow within the car park and the impact on the busy A350. The town council, who were consulted on the application, had no objection to the plans but recommended that the ‘inadequate car park layout be revised to allow better flow of traffic for the whole of the parking area.’ The Highways Department at Wiltshire Council echoed these concerns, and the plans were subsequently revised.
The revised plans were approved with a number of conditions including that the recommended changes to the car park layout are carried out and a car park management plan – which will set out how Costa staff will manage any queues that do form beyond the drive-through lane – is approved prior to the facility being used.
