THE town council has objected to plans to build three terraced houses on land to the rear of King Street.
This is the second time the plans, which proposes access to the site via King Street public car park, have been discussed by the town council this year.
The town council previously raised no objections to the plans. But their response did request that the developer be encouraged, if planning permission was granted, to provide electric vehicle charging points; and install solar panels.
This time round, councillors have objected, raising concerns about access to the site via the car park; and highlighted that their request for electric vehicle charging points and solar panels to be installed at the site has been ignored.
“They have done nothing to address any of our concerns,” said cllr Saffi Rabey at a meeting of the town council’s economic development and planning committee last week.
Town councillors also pointed out that the developers have now revised their plans since January, removing three parking spaces on the site for the three two-bed terraced houses. In February, Wiltshire Council’s highways department had said that the three two-bed terraced houses would need at least six car parking spaces.
“Where are they going to park?” asked cllr Jon Hubbard.
It was also agreed by the town council that cllr Hubbard, who is also a Wiltshire councillor, will ‘call in’ the application. This means that instead of the application being considered by a Wiltshire Council case officer, the plans will be discussed by members of Wiltshire Council’s planning committee at a meeting open to the public.
Wiltshire Council’s highways department is yet to comment on the revised plans.
The deadline for comments on the application is Thursday 7th July. To view the application, visit the Wiltshire Council planning website and search with the reference PL/2022/00125 – www.wiltshire.gov.uk/planning-building-control/planning
