A PLANNING application to build three terraced houses on land to the rear of King Street requires more information says Wiltshire Council. The plans include access to the site via King Street public car park.
In response to the application, Wiltshire Council’s highways department has asked for clarity about access to the site before they give further comment.
Their response said, “The details relating to vehicle access and routing with this proposal are vague. I note no design and access statement or planning statement supplied. Firstly, access is via a council car park. The applicant will need to outline and demonstrate that suitable access rights/ permissions exist.”
The council’s highways department also noted that the plans propose only three parking spaces on the site for the three two-bed terraced houses.
“The council car parking standards requires 2 spaces per 2 bed unit properties,” said the highways spokesperson. “Therefore, six car parking spaces are required.”
Melksham Town Council discussed the application at their economic development and planning committee meeting last month and raised no objections.
However, they did suggest the following conditions in line with policies listed in the Melksham Neighbourhood Plan.
They asked that the developer be encouraged to provide electric vehicle charging points; and that the developer be encouraged to install solar panels.
The deadline for comments has now passed.
