HOLT Sports & Recreation Committee have formally opened the second tennis court at the recreation ground.
The new court known as ‘Court 2’ cost around £38,000 and includes floodlights to allow play to continue in the evenings.
The total was reached thanks to money made from the original court built 13 years ago, as well as the help of grants. This included £4,800 from the Grass Roots Programme, £3,500 from Community First, £2,000 from Cereal Partners which went towards the flood-lighting and a further £5,000 from the area board.
Meg Slade committee chairman said, “In the year 2000 we opened our first sports court which has been a great asset to the recreation field of Holt. We had no intention of making this a profit making concern, but as the court has been used so well, we were able to consider a second court.
“We are extremely grateful to those who gave us grants and we are delighted to be able to officially open the court. The facilities we now have at Holt has allowed people who haven’t played in decades to take it up again and it’s great to see it so well used. It is wonderful to see our second sports court up and running and being enjoyed.”
The facilities in Holt, including the new tennis court is available for anyone to use.
