THE pavilion in King George V playing field will re-open next year as a café – and the town council is on the hunt for someone to manage it.
The Cricketers Café was expected to open this year for the summer, but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed the town council’s plans.
Instead, the council is hoping to open the café in March, alongside the opening of the new play area next to the splashpad.
In preparation, the council have advertised for an expression of interest from parties wishing to take over the running of the café (see centre pages for full details). Planning permission to change the use of the pavilion building from leisure to a cafe/takeaway, was recently granted by Wiltshire Council.
The café’s name, The Cricketers Café, pays homage to its cricketing past. And the town council is inviting the community to contribute their old photos or memories of cricket in Melksham, which could be used for a special display at the pavilion that will celebrate the history and heritage of cricket in the park.
