THE news of The Toy Shop on Melksham high street celebrating its 50th anniversary triggered people to remember their own memories of the iconic shop, sharing them on social media.
Many people expressed their gratitude to owner Clive Brown and his son Matthew for providing them with years of toys and entertainment. People shared stories of visiting as a child and now bringing their own children, family members who used to work there and words of congratulations to the long-standing family business.
Floss Marina Greenman wrote, “My Auntie Margaret Medcalf worked there for years until she was taken away by cancer, loads of great memories the best toy shop around, always polite staff and happy to help. Happy 50th Melksham Toy Shop – let’s have 50 more at least.”
Bryan Sheppard wrote, “As a kid I loved it, I’m now 48! Used to buy play people stuff in there, had the police car, ambulance, fire car, plus loads of other stuff. I loved it in there. Later on, my Auntie Pam worked in there too…”
Barbara Hollyhead wrote, “Congratulations! I used to go there every Saturday to spend my pocket money, usually on dolls clothes or Pelham Puppets. LOVE this place! A proper shop!”
David Preston wrote, “Happy 50th birthday. So nice to find a shop where you can get service and a friendly smile. Bought many Lego sets over the years and still do…”
In response to the comments from customers, Clive Brown said, “We’ve had so many nice comments from people; it’s been fantastic. Lots of people have been remembering how they visited the shop decades ago and are now coming in with their grand children! It has been really humbling to hear all their stories.”
