THE consultation into Melksham Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) has been extended by Wiltshire Council, to give more people the opportunity to respond.
The consultation will now close on Monday 5th February.
LCWIPs outline strategies for improving cycling and walking routes and are a foundation for future improvements and potential funding from the Department for Transport. The council has already created a Wiltshire-wide LCWIP for inter-urban routes, plus plans for Salisbury, Chippenham, Devizes and Trowbridge, with more to come.
This is the first stage of consultation for the Melksham LCWIP – along with Calne – and as such the council hopes for input from residents to shape the plans and to enhance local walking and cycling networks.
Cabinet member for transport, cllr Caroline Thomas, said, “As this consultation spanned the Christmas break, we wanted to give people in Melksham and Calne more time to respond, which is why we’ve extended the closing date to Monday 5th February.
“We have committed to promoting more walking and cycling in our business plan and these LCWIPs aim to identify cycling and walking networks that would make travel by foot or bike easier, while improving air quality, reducing traffic congestion, and cutting carbon emissions.”
