Broughton Gifford’s Darrell Higgins was in action in final round of the Post Classic Grand Prix 2 Championships, held at Castle Combe over the weekend of 11th to 12th October.
Racing on his Dennis Trollope-backed TZ 350 Yamaha, Darrell went into the 350cc championships lying in third place with Nick Williamson close behind in fourth place also on a TZ 350cc Yamaha. After qualifying Nick Williamson was second fastest and Darrell third fastest.
In their first ten-lap race Darrell made a great start and managed to get ahead of Nick Williamson in second place. These two had a race long wheel-to-wheel dice and Darrell took the victory by just 1.08 of a second from Nick Williamson in second place and this was also Darrell’s 29th victory at Castle Combe.
In their second race these two were again in the thick of the action for the lead and Darrell led half-way around the last lap of their eight-lap race.
As the pair exited the final chicane Darrell missed a gear and Nick Williams pulled alongside Darrell and in the sprint for the line Nick Williams took the victory by just 0.12 of a second ahead of Darrell in second place. Nick Williamson won their third nine-lap race with Darrell again in second place but this result saw Darrell finish in second place in this season’s championship.
