THERE’S been a double celebration for Melksham Town Football Club after securing a major sponsorship deal and then clinching a visit from the Manchester United Legends team.
Knorr-Bremse have agreed a two-year deal to provide shirts for all the senior and youth teams – more than 500 shirt.
The news comes as a massive relief to the club that has been hit badly by the Covid-19 pandemic.
And just days after the announcement, Town were back celebrating after Man United Legends agreed to play at the infiLED Arena in August, bringing former stars including two members of the Treble winning team from 1998-99, Wes Brown and David May; along with Lee Martin – scorer of the winning goal in the FA Cup Final against Crystal Palace.
The United side will play a Melksham Town XI team on Sunday 1st August – with an opportunity for three local players to play for the United Legends.
“What a week it’s been,” said Town chairman and director, Darren Perrin. “The sponsorship deal is huge for the football club,” he said. “And to get a return visit from Man United Legends is the icing on the cake; another piece of fantastic news.
“Knorr-Bremse are providing kits for two years for all ages and all teams from the under 6s to the First Team; everyone will wear same kit.
“The effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on the club financially has been disastrous; it’s decimated us so this sponsorship deal is absolutely fantastic news for the club
“I can’t speak highly enough of the support from Knorr-Bremse; we’re hugely appreciated.
“Knorr-Bremse are a well-known and respected local company and the largest employer in the area. Knorr-Bremse support the community in many ways and we are really pleased with this enhanced support package which will help us go into the new season with solid foundations.
“We look forward to working with them over the next two seasons and hopefully beyond and I would like to thank them for the professionalism and support that they have shown already in their dealings with MTFC.”
Managing director of Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems UK, Paul Goodhand, added, “We are delighted that the opportunity to further support MTFC has presented itself. The club is a real credit to Melksham and the surrounding areas.
“The experience they are providing for local young people, is exactly the kind of positive community activity that Knorr-Bremse feel proud to be involved with.”
Melksham Town added, “MTFC is very active in supporting local youngsters into the game with currently over 420 youth players as well as more than 100 senior players who train and play at the club’s superb infiLED Arena at Oakfield Stadium facilities.
“Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems UK, who design and manufacture rail vehicle systems for global export, are long-time supporters of MTFC. In addition to the company’s logo appearing prominently around the ground their logo will now appear on all team shirts.”
