EIGHT-year-old Evie Channon held a charity bake sale after being inspired by a character in a David Walliams book.
Evie felt sorry for the main character in ‘Mr Stink’ because he had no home. As a result, Evie decided that she wanted to help the homeless.
Evie said “I think everyone should have a home.” She set to work designing posters and wrote invitations to the neighbours with the details.
Evie then got to work baking, she made cup cakes, aero mint cake, marshmallow crispy squares, flap jacks and lemon drizzle squares.
Luckily the weather stayed dry and the local neighbours turned up. Evie’s mum said, “We would like to thank everyone for their support and contributions, Evie was delighted with how many people came. We are also very proud of Evie for all her efforts and thinking of others.”
Evie enjoyed counting up the money and was overjoyed at the overall total of £87.
Sarah from a charity which helps the homeless in the South West said she thought it was an amazing act of kindness that someone so young was already thinking of others struggling in their local community.
She said “Evie is a very thoughtful and caring girl, thank you for thinking of our charity.”
