THERE’S a cold hard edge to that autumn wind right now. You might just need a cup of tea and a biscuit and somewhere comfy to sit down while you’re out and about in Melksham.
With all the works that are continuing around the Town Hall it’s easy to forget that just such a place exists in the ArtHouse Cafe. You’ll find it through the arch, next to the Town Hall.
Each month the cafe is host to an exhibition of the work of local artists and throughout October the work of four artists is on display.
Richard Bill concentrates on painting familiar Wiltshire scenes in oils and watercolours of a modest size. His subject material is immediately recognisable to people who live here.
Shelley Ashkowski specialises in drawing, creating rich images with the humble ball point pen.
A butterfly as far as subject matter is concerned, David Nutt flits from one thing that catches his eye to another. He works in a variety of media but prefers oils.
Christine Coutts creates artworks with stained glass. She has a distinctive style using the copper foil technique. Her subjects are predominantly influenced by local scenes and nature.
So rest those weary shopping feet and who knows – whilst admiring the work of these four artists you might even find a modestly priced Christmas present for someone you know who supports the arts? Most of the proceeds of ArtHouse Cafe Gallery sales go to support very worthy and much underfunded local charities.
