TWO Seend gardens will be taking part in the National Garden Scheme next month.
On Saturday 2nd July, 1pm to 6pm, both Seend House (High Street, Seend, SN12 6NR) and Seend Manor (High Street, Seend, SN12 6NX) will be open to the public. Refreshments will be sold at both venues in aid of Seend Village Hall and the church.
Organisers say, “Seend House is a Georgian house with 6 acres of gardens and paddocks, framed with yew and box. Highlights include a cloud and rose garden, stream lavender, a view of knot garden from above, a fountain with grass border, a walled garden as well as formal borders and an amazing view across the valley to Salisbury Plain.
“Created over 20 years, Seend Manor has a stunning walled garden with 4 quadrants evoking important parts of the owners’ lives – England, China, Africa and Italy, with extensive trelliage, hornbeam hedges on stilts, cottage orne, temple, Chinese ting, grotto, fern walk, fountains, parterres, stone loggia and more. There is also a kitchen garden, folly ruin in woods, courtyard garden, extensive walled gardens, water features, garden structures, topiary and hedging, and one of the best views in Wiltshire. There are many gravel paths, so wheelchairs with thick tyres are best.”
Admission is £10, which gives you access to both gardens; children go free. It is always best to check the National Garden Scheme’s website before leaving for your garden visit: www.ngs.org.uk
