THERE is still time to register your entry for the Melksham in Bloom Sunflower Competition – but you don’t have long!
Entries to the 2021 sunflower competition are open until this Friday 6th August, and growers are warmly encouraged to participate.
The town council says, “Whilst Melksham gardeners have been busy showing off their horticultural skills in the town council’s annual Melksham in Bloom competition, the town’s sunflower growers are still tending their magnificent blooms, coaxing them to even greater heights and seedhead diameters!
“Are you growing sunflowers this year? Do you ever spot them out of the corner of your eye and wonder if one of your crop could be the greatest of them all?!”
“The Town Council’s inaugural sunflower competition last year was an amazing success,” adds the town council’s community officer, Miriam Zaccarelli. “Growing these magnificent blooms is a great way of measuring your developing gardening skills – and really brilliant fun as well!”
Melksham’s top sunflower grower in 2020 was Henry Holman with a magnificent entry.
“Don’t be put off entering though,” say the town council, “as past results in gardening may not be a reliable indicator of future performance. It’s definitely all still to play for this year!”
