A PUBLIC morning is being held next Thursday ahead of the launch of Melksham’s new leg club in April.
People interested in finding out more about the club are invited to join the coffee morning at Spencer’s Sports and Social Club from 10.30am to 11.30am on Thursday 23rd March.
The leg club will open in April for patients already receiving leg ulcer treatment at Melksham GP surgeries, then it is expected to open to the wider public in the future.
Project manager Amanda Brookes says, “All are welcome to come to the coffee morning to hear about the club, and the services that will be on offer from May onwards.
“The club will be run on an appointment basis initially so that we can gauge the demand and adjust our staffing accordingly. In time, we would like to provide this service as a drop-in clinic.
“We hope to set up a falls clinic, balance group, short walks programme, have a health trainer attending, plus a carers’ café, and have lots of information available on services and clubs in and around Melksham.
“We are very grateful to the Rotary Club and Melksham Health and Wellbeing Board for their kind donations which will allow us to buy specialist equipment and set up other social activities.
“Social isolation and de-medicalising leg ulcer care are our main priorities for year one.”
The club is run by NHS nurses and with a focus on socialising. Leg ulcers are the most common condition seen at the Lindsay Leg Club Foundation’s clubs, but they are open to anyone with a lower limb condition.
Members are encouraged to continue visiting and socialising even after their conditions have improved.
