MELKSHAM Town Council continues to work with Wiltshire Council to monitor the fly-tipping problem in Church Street car park. The most recent dumping of rubbish has now been cleared, but questions remain about how long it will stay clear.
Fly-tipping, the illegal dumping of waste, in Church Street car park has been an ongoing problem. The recent clear-up has been paid for by the landowners. However, local businesses and nearby residents are concerned about the issues it causes.
Philip Gregson, from I.D Newmans butchers said, “The bins are an absolute disgrace and pose a threat to health and safety in the area. The problem is getting worse and will undoubtedly attract rats and pests to the area. Something more permanent needs to be done, otherwise it will keep happening.”
Melksham Town Council told Melksham News that they are working closely with Wiltshire Council and the residents in the locality on educating them on the best ways to dispose of their rubbish.
In the meantime, the problem is still being monitore and ideas are still being discussed on how to resolve the matter.
