DOROTHY House charity has expressed concern after an increase in fly tipping outside their Melksham shop.
Staff returned to work at the shop following the weekend to find three sofas, two beds, three TVs and one sideboard. All were dumped in the loading bay, meaning they were unable to gain access for their van.
The shop has a sign clearly displayed at the front informing anyone that donations are not wanted outside of the opening hours. Manager of the Melksham shop, Hugh Morrison said, “It is such an inconvenience and deliberate fly tipping. The items left were in such a bad state that it is clear they were not donations. It costs us money to remove the items as well as time as it means some of our staff members are tied up for hours dealing with what rubbish we have been left with. This fly tipping happens on a regular basis but this was by far the worst example.
“We don’t offer donations outside of opening hours as it is a fire risk leaving things lying around and if we had a fire it would be worse then just time and money lost, we would lose the whole shop!”
Every day, Dorothy House supports around 700 families in the region who are affected by cancer, motor neurone disease and other life threatening conditions.
