MELKSHAM 2385 Air Cadets Squadron has been awarded £10,000 of National Lottery funding to put towards purchasing a new minibus to transport cadets to activities and events.
Their current minibus needed replacing and the squadron sought help from the National Lottery and also received local community grants to raise £20,000 to purchase a new minibus.
This year, Melksham Area Board awarded the squadron £2,500 towards the funds and recently they also received a grant of £250 from Melksham Without Parish Council.
With this help, they are currently three-quarters of the way to reaching their target, with more fundraising activities happening throughout the rest of the year.
“The current minibus is not in good condition, so we are looking to get another one to transport the cadets to participate in activities and help support community events.” said commanding officer of 2385 Melksham Squadron, flight lieutenant Greg McKay.
“We are hoping to have raised the rest of the money by the end of the calendar year. We will be taking part in local fundraising activities to raise the money and we will be helping at local events in the community.
“The cadets also help out at Castle Combe with the car parking, where donations are received there and we take part in bag packing events over Christmas at Waitrose.”
