Following last year’s hugely successful Food & River Festival, the organising committee, chaired by Adrienne Westbrook, is on the lookout for volunteers to help organise this year’s event.
Helpers are needed both to plan the event beforehand, and to assist over the weekend of 3rd and 4th September.
The first ever combined Food and Drink and River Festival, held on King George V Playing Field, had an incredibly successful opening year in 2015; it showcased local food and drink providers, provided free entertainment with local bands, and offered boat trips and other events on the River Avon.
It was estimated that between 6,000 and 7,000 people attended over the weekend, enjoying all that the festival had on offer.
Adrienne Westbrook, Chair of the organising committee said, “After six years of superb support for the Food & Drink Festival, including providing working hours by employees, Melksham Town Council has had to take a little more of a backseat. They are still providing us with meeting rooms and funding, but we do now need more actual individuals to help with responsibilities such as committee work, site organisation, and practical tasks, including setting up and/or dismantling on the festival days.

“It really will be great fun to be involved in such a terrific community event, which is helping to put Melksham on the food map.”
The committee has already received some bookings for this year, but would love to hear from local food and drink providers who would like to book a pitch and be involved in this very important event in Melksham’s calendar.
Adrienne added, “This really is a fantastic opportunity to promote the wonderful range of produce which Wiltshire has to offer. We are hoping to have a number gazebos for hire to fit a 3m² pitch, so if you don’t have your own, please get in touch to book one as soon as possible, as they will be available on a ‘first come first served’ basis.
