THE new councillor for Melksham Town Council is former mayor, Cllr Adrienne Westbrook, who will serve Melksham Forest Ward.
There was due to be an election for the vacant Forest Ward seat following the resignation of former councillor, Sue Mortimer. However, Wiltshire Council Electoral Services said that Cllr Westbrook was the only valid nomination submitted and therefore was elected to the council unopposed.
Cllr Westbrook, who represents the Liberal Democrats, previously served four terms as the town’s mayor in 1997/98, 1999/2000, 2017/18, and 2018/19.
Founder of Melksham Community Larder and the Food and River Festival, Cllr Westbrook said that she has always believed in the power of community involvement. “I am thrilled to return to the council chamber, serving as a Liberal Democrat councillor,” she said. “My previous tenure on the council was marked by notable successes, among them the new King George V Park (KGV) play area and splash pad.
“As a councillor, I look forward to working with this council and particularly, the three newly-elected Lib Dem councillors. As I was elected unopposed, I would like to share the ‘five to thrive’ campaign I would have campaigned on, so the people of Melksham Forest know what their new councillor believes in; KGV park Green Flag status, saving Melksham Forest’s green space, ensure more council transparency, investing in the community and commitment to attending meetings.”
