Now in its eighth year, Core Church’s open-to-everyone free-of-charge Christmas Dinner at Melksham Assembly Hall has become something of a local tradition.
Gavin Owen of Core Church said, “As long as there are people who want to join us, we’ll be here on Christmas Day year after year. We have regulars, both guests and helpers, who come every year and I’ve started to recognise people’s voices when they phone me to book. We get new people every year too and many of them go home saying, see you next Christmas!”
Doors will open at 11am on Christmas Day at the Assembly Hall for carols and refreshments followed by roast dinner at 1pm, with the turkey once again generously supplied by I. D. Newman and Sons Butchers in Church Street and puddings provided by Angela of local catering firm, Food Glorious Food.
As usual, all are welcome and there is no charge, though anyone who wants to make a donation is welcome to do so.
Core Church can even arrange transport for anyone who needs help getting to the Assembly Hall. Gavin said, “We want to do whatever we can to make it possible for people to be here. So don’t let anything put you off. The invitation really is for everyone – old or young, rich or poor, on your own or with friends and family.”
You can book your place by calling or texting Gavin on 07788 446567. Alternatively, pop into Newman’s butchers, the Town Hall or the Assembly Hall and let them have your name and contact number.
