Melksham & District French Twinning Association (MDFTA) has just returned from its biennial visit to Avon where Pam Wiltshire presented the winning piece of art from Melksham Oak students to the recently-elected mayor of Avon.
Cara Wallace’s artwork was well-received and drew many admiring looks and complimentary comments.
Melksham and Avon Councils have been ‘twinned’ for an amazing 34 years and this year they were joined by two members of Trowbridge Photography Club; previous ‘guest’ twinners have come from Melksham Rock ‘n’ Roll club. In an exchange of good wishes at the dinner, Mary Woolford (a founder member of the Association) reflected that the friendship between the towns remains strong as do the personal friendships formed through those years. Mary agreed with comments made by guests at last year’s dinner, that, “Our twinning has fostered such good cooperation between our two towns and must not be allowed to fade.”
MDFTA would welcome new members, particularly, but not exclusively, families, to continue this relationship. There is no need to be able to speak French, just a desire to continue to foster good relationships between the two towns and countries.
If you are interested in joining, or just finding out a bit more, please come to the AGM at 7.30pm on Wednesday 4th June in Melksham Town Hall or contact Carol Head on 01225 704907.
