MELKSHAM Cancer Research group is celebrating its second anniversary and another hugely successful year after they raised more than £17,000.
That total for year two means the amount raised since the group was launched in 2013 is £37,846 after a range of local events in the last 12 months. This includes an autumn party night, quiz nights, a curry night, local store collections and much more. The impressive total has been raised after the town once again supported the group and the events they organised.
Marie Bucknell-Smith from Melksham Cancer Research has also released a book entitled ‘Once The Fog Has Lifted’ to raise funds for the group. The book, based on the first year of fundraising for the Melksham group, has contributed to the second year’s total. Marie said, “It has once again been an amazing year for the group and I would like to thank all the organisations, groups and individuals that have made the second year such a success. When I started the group two years ago I never imagined things would go as well as they have done and it’s thanks to the local people who support us.
“Unfortunately with members of the group dwindling the workload has increased and as a result we are going to be taking a back seat in the coming months as it has taken a lot out of me and the group.
“Once we have new members or any volunteers to take on the work, we will become more active and once again start planning lots of events but until then, it is just too much. However, it has been great and we will still be collecting as it is a great cause and one that the Melksham community obviously think a lot of.”
