HUNDREDS of shoeboxes packed full of Christmas gifts for disadvantaged children in other countries have been donated by the Melksham community.
Around 200 shoeboxes and nearly 1,000 woollen items – such as scarves and hats – have been donated to Operation Christmas Child – a project that is run by relief charity Samaritan’s Purse.
This year’s donation drop-off point was at the Town Hall, and Melksham Town Council staff have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community.
On behalf of the town council, locum assistant town clerk, Jeff Mills, told Melksham News, “This is true charity, without fanfare, with no desire for recognition. It’s brilliant. And it is in spite of the hardships faced by many during this difficult year.
“The community has demonstrated yet again just how generous and supportive it can be to others.”
