THE Melksham Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) will be launching this year’s Poppy Appeal on Thursday 27th October and it will run for two weeks until Saturday 12th November.
Trevor Paterson, RBL Poppy Appeal organiser said, “Poppies will be available in local shops, pubs and clubs during the period and we will also have tables in the main supermarkets, for the purchase of poppies, 2022 lapel badges, plain and regimental crosses and many other Poppy Appeal items!
“As in previous years we will be looking for volunteers to man our tables, alongside branch members. You can volunteer for as many hours or days as you can manage and choose which store is convenient for you to attend.
“This year, like last year, we will be using contactless terminals as well as cash donations; these are very user friendly!
“This year’s Remembrance parade will be on Sunday 13th November, in the morning like last year, from King Street car park to arrive at the cenotaph in time for the two-minute silence at 11am.
“This year we are going to have the service at the cenotaph as we’ve found in previous years that many residents could not attend the service in the church as it was full: it will be a short service, followed by the wreath laying and then marching back to King Street car park.
“Could organisations, schools or private individuals who would like to lay a wreath, please contact me as I have plenty in my store.”
If there is anyone who would like to assist this year, please contact Trevor Paterson on 01225 899001 or 07884 050097 or trevor paterson747@hotmail.com
