GOMPELS have teamed up with Dorothy House in an attempt to provide Melksham residents with better access to information about the hospice’s service.
Every Thursday morning in April between 10am-12noon a Dorothy House representative will be in Gompels in the town centre to provide advice and information about the services they offer. The consultation is an opportunity to discover how they could help you or your family and is free to use.
It is part of a new initiative from Gompels who hope to have a different charity or service in store each month to provide information about their services. Dorothy House will be the first to be involved with the scheme.
The window of the Gompels shop will be decorated in Dorothy House information boards and each Thursday in April a Dorothy House staff member will be available in the shop to talk to customers.
Sue Eskins the community and outreach team manager for Dorothy House said, “This is a new idea and we hope to reach out to more people who might not be aware of what we do.
“Many people may be put off coming to visit us so this way it means they can gain advice and information in an informal way.
“This is part of our drive to get more information into the community so people who may need us will know exactly what we can offer. We are pleased to be a part of this idea and we look forward to seeing and talking to as many people as possible.”
Stephanie Hunt from Gompels is also enthusiastic about the new initiative. She said, “We think it is a great idea and means people can get a better understanding of what Dorothy House can offer,
“This will become a point of access for people in Melksham to a service they might not otherwise be able to reach or might not have been aware of exactly what they do.
“Each month we hope to have a different local group or charity sharing their services. In June Alzheimers Support will be coming in and we are working on other months.”
