MELKSHAM Cricket Club is celebrating another improvement to its grounds this season.
The club has had its former cricket astroturf replaced by S & C Slatter, a leading cricket surface contractor in the UK who also installed the double lane net system at the club last year.
The club’s previous astroturf was thought to be over 30 years old and installed by Melksham House. The new astroturf has been part funded by Melksham Area Board, Melksham Town Council and Melksham Without Parish Council.
The club chairman Gary Burns said, “A significant amount of work goes into raising the funds required to improve the facilities at our ground. This improvement to the artificial wicket is the latest example of that. We have a number of other projects in the pipeline to continue these improvements in support of further developing the cricket club and what it can offer to those who wish to play.”
The surface will be used by all sections of the club – the first XI, second XI and new third XI, the new ladies’ section, the 20/20 side and the growing youth section.
The timetable is the youth sections KS1 on Thursdays 5pm to 6pm and KS2 and KS3 on Saturdays 10am to 11am; the new ladies’ section on Tuesdays 7pm to 8pm; 20/20 side on Wednesdays; and the 1st XI, 2nd XI and new 3rd XI league team on Saturdays.
