A GYM in Melksham has raised over £1,700 for an ‘outbox bullying’ programme for children, by taking part in an SAS-style mountain climb.
The Contender Gym reports, “Exercise High Walk, more commonly known as the ‘Fan Dance’, is part of the fitness and navigation phase of the selection process for the UK’s special forces, as well as 16 Air Assault Brigade’s Pathfinder Platoon.
“Ex-SAS Jim Walker led members of The Contender Gym in Melksham through their paces on Saturday 16th February, climbing Pen Y Fan carrying 35lbs, plus water, over 15 miles within a four-hour time limit. They raised £1,749 and it will be used to buy boxing gloves, handwraps and other boxing kit for children to use during ‘out box bullying’ sessions. ‘Out box bullying’ is a programme set up by the gym to help individuals struggling with confidence, anxiety, along with any other issues that boxing can add benefit to.”
Organiser Mark Kent said, “This was one of the hardest things we’ve ever done, but was worth every painful minute – we have raised over £1,700 for our Out Box Bullying programme. A massive thanks to everyone that donated and shared. Thanks to those that gave their time to do the Fan Dance and to Jim Walker who led the way.”
