A CONSULTATION into proposals for the improvement of train services on the Great Western rail network is currently under way. Melksham Rail User Group and Transwilts are asking for your support.
Graham Ellis, community rail officer for TransWilts said, “Twelve years ago, Melksham’s train service was decimated when services across the West of England were refranchised and one of the reasons given was “there were very few inputs to the consultation in support of the service.
“A consultation for the following franchise is now under way, and the Melksham Rail User Group and TransWilts would like to encourage readers to write in to the Department for Transport. You can help us make a positive difference this time around.
“There is a short link to the franchise consultation at http://twcrp.info/gwrf and my suggestions at http:// twcrp.org.uk/gwf_09.pdf. All a bit heavy, but if you can email in to GW consultation@dft.gsi.gov.uk in support of our answers to question 5 (supporting more trains, and a later evening service) and question 8 (supporting linking our services to those that head further south, giving through services to Warminster, Salisbury, and Southampton central and airport) that would be great.
“We have indications that we are pushing on an open door with the Department for Transport for an improved service this time around. We just need you to help us push.
“Thanking you in anticipation of you writing in, in support.”
