St Margaret’s Hall in Bradford on Avon seats 200 but even so it was so full that many had to be turned away at the hustings for the climate which was held there on November 28.
All three candidates for the Chippenham constituency (Martha Anachury for Labour, Helen Belcher for the Liberal Democrats and Michelle Donelan for the Conservatives) attended and answered a variety of questions on aspects of climate change from the cost and availability of local public transport to environmental standards for new houses. Several searching questions were asked by local girl guides.
The event was sponsored by climate change groups from four towns in the constituency: Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon, Melksham Energy Group, Transcoco (Corsham) and Zero Chippenham.
Rowena Quantrill from Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon said: ‘we had over 60 questions sent in and this plus the numbers attending showed the candidates that the climate emergency is very high among voters priorities and they really want to know what solutions our prospective MPs and their parties are proposing’.
